The Leaning Tower of Ahi Tuna Tartare

I'm not a big sushi fan but tuna tartare or ahi poke might just be that one raw fish exception! Lately when I eat out and I see either on the menu it's definitely what I order! Ya ya, dining out was SO last year, but sometimes I'm a little unfashionable I suppose. :)

I decided to stick true to my name, I would make it myself!

Ahi Tuna Tartare with Avocado Smash

Ingredients

-Soy Sauce
-Rice Wine Vinegar
-Siracha
- Mirin
-Sesame Oil
- Sliced Green Onions
- Avocado
-Red Onion
-Sushi Grade Ahi Tuna
-Toasted Sesame Seeds for garnish
I really couldn't tell you measurements because I added, then tasted, then added, then tasted. Make sure you mix the liquids before you add it to the tuna, so you can try it as you go. You're looking for a pungent yet salty sauce with an obvious asian aroma.

Marinade the chopped tuna, red and green onions in the sauce you created with all the liquids mentioned above. Like I said, just add a bit of each until you come up with your own balance of flavors.

Refrigerate your tuna for 1-2 hours to soak in all the marinade!

Make sure your avocado is ripe and has a tasty yet buttery texture. You'll want it to hold up to the mold and tuna on top.
I spiced up my avocado smash by adding lemon juice, ginger powder, salt and pepper, and red and green onions!

To make the tuna tartare tower I found a hollow tube from a random kitchen appliance. I placed it down flat on my plate that I had garnished with thinly sliced cucumber. I filled the tube with the avocado smash and made sure it was even. Then I added a few spoonfuls of the marinated tuna and compacted it down to ensure that it stays in the round shape. I slowly wiggled the tube away and was left with a beautiful and tasty ahi tuna tartare tower.

Just like the restaurants!

Enjoy!!
