BOO!! Happy (almost) Halloween everyone! What are your plans? I'm heading down to San Diego and have yet to come up with a costume.
Last week I was inspired by Bakerella and her super cute CakePops. Her demo video I found on amazon made it look SO simple.
I was slightly mistaken. That's alright though, I had a great time experimenting with and decorating these tasty little treats. I had a few issues here and there but overall I think they turned out great!
All my ingredients. Yes all store bought treats!
I bought a green block of foam, cut out little tombstones and secured them with tape and toothpicks.
Once the cake is out of the oven and completely cooled (or stick it in the freezer for us impatient folk), grab two huge pieces of cake and rub them from side to side. Watch as the magical cake dust crumbles into your bowl.
Heap a large amount of delicious frosting of your choice into the magic cake dust. Stir well with themed candy corn spatula (theme optional).
Yes I know what you're thinking, that looks like cookie dough...
oh but it's sooo much better. :)
Roll this (already cooked) cake dough into little bite-sized balls.
Before sticking the balls with a lollipop stick, dip the stick in some of your melted chocolate (candy melts). This will make sure they're secured to the stick.
When you get your candy melts nice and ooey gooey it's time to start assembling. You don't have much time so I would say get all set up and prepared before you start dipping.
The chocolate (candy melts) should be thin enough where the cake ball slides easily in and out, but thick enough to harden up and not run right off the balls.
I ran into some problems with consistency, here's my white chocolate, it was past the point of no return. :( That's why there aren't as many ghosts as I would like- mostly pumpkins.
Although these were time consuming and I had to play around with the melting etc. I still had so much fun decorating and presenting these cute little guys. These were by far my favorite dessert I've ever made...yes better than CUPCAKES!
Halloween Joke:
What do you get when you bite a ghost?
A mouth full of sheet...
Can you come up with a better one?
See you next Monday!
